Is it best to have a birthday party at school or home?

fatima asks: I want to celebrate my birthday, but I am confused whether it’s best to celebrate it at home or at school.

Hi fatima –

It sure makes sense to me that you’d want to have the best, most fun, party you can.  And that you’d wonder whether that party would most likely be at school or at home.

The first question I have is whether your school allows parties there.  Most schools don’t want to spend time on things like that, since the teachers need the time they have to get the kids all the education they need.

But if the school is okay with them, then my next question would be whether most kids (especially the ones you like best) like to have parties at school.  Some kids want to get away from school as fast as they can, and might find it annoying to stay there for a party.  On the other hand, having a party at school means no one has to drive anywhere to come to your party, and so the kids, and especially the parents, might really love that idea.

So my answer would really be based on these two questions.  If you can have the party at school, and you get the sense that other kids would like that, then I think it’s a great idea.  But if the answer to either of those questions is ‘no,’ then I think you’ll be happier having a party somewhere else, whether at home, at a restaurant, or at some other place you find really fun.

Whichever you do… HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
